From Trump’s Tangents to Actionable Answers: Kamala’s Debate Win

I was so nervous about last night’s debate, knowing how much was at stake and desperately wanting Kamala Harris to succeed, that I could hardly catch my breath. Glad to report that she triumphantly rose to the occasion.

While Donald Trump deflected questions and rambled on about bizarre, untrue topics and social media clickbait—like eating dogs and transgender illegal alien operations in prison—Kamala stayed focused on what matters: the future of democracy and the next generation of opportunities. It was so frustrating to watch Trump avoid real answers! At one point, I couldn’t help but shout at the TV, "Answer the question, Donald! Enough about the border—what’s your plan for startups, the economy, and jobs?"

Kamala, on the other hand, was a reminder of how a debate can be a platform for an exchange of ideas between the voter and a candidate. It was a breath of fresh air. The Vice President spoke about her campaign being rooted in optimism and hope, her plan to drive economic growth and progress, and how entrepreneurship is the heartbeat of America. Right out of the gate, during her first answer, she reminded us that she grew up with a mom who owned a small business, and that she understands firsthand that innovation drives economic progress.

She spoke frequently about her “Opportunity Economy” plan, which aims to make business ownership more accessible by supporting the creation of 25 million new businesses, expanding the startup tax deduction to $50,000, and cutting the red tape that stifles growth. As outlined in her policies dropped on her website earlier this week, Kamala is also committed to bringing venture capital to regions that have long been overlooked. She’s advocating for concrete, proven measures that will directly benefit all businesses, minority and women-owned businesses included.

Her focus on expanding access to capital and supporting communities hardest hit by economic challenges really struck a chord. She laid out a vision for success for everyone, regardless of background or location. “My plan is to give a $50,000 tax deduction to startup small businesses, knowing they are part of the backbone of America's economy,” she said. It’s clear her vision goes beyond policy—it’s personal. And it’s personal to me, the Wocstar | B Corp Certified team, and the millions of entrepreneurs and startups we support, advocate for, and invest in.

Her quote, “Let’s not go back,” also hit home for me. Trump has shown no excitement about innovation, startups, or future opportunities. It’s disheartening. He’s harping on the past, while Kamala is looking ahead with grace and a clear vision for the future. She eloquently articulated the issues, provided context with clarity, and inspired confidence—qualities I want in a leader on the world stage. She gets me excited about what’s ahead!

I want a leader who’s excited about the future—someone who can inspire us around startups, education, innovation, and jobs. Kamala didn’t just answer the questions—she offered hope, optimism, and sound policies to move us forward. Her message was clear: now is the time to uplift business owners and entrepreneurs.

Kamala's vision for an inclusive, opportunity-driven economy is exactly what this country needs. And let's be honest—we all need a leader who can throw that signature side-eye when something ridiculous is said or done.

Well done, Gayle Jennings O'Byrne. You nailed it! And yet, a neighbor told me today that I was courageous to have a Harris Walz flag in my yard. Why should I have to be brave to put a sign about who I support?
