Fujitsu Research News Update - July 2023
Towards Global Sustainability Transformation
Global Sustainability underpins our future research strategy as we all contend with the many varying external factors such as climate change, geopolitical tensions and financial turbulence. In this month’s newsletter, we set out the findings of a special report commissioned by Fujitsu to survey 1800 decision makers in nine countries.
Oxford Economics conducted the survey in January this year, with the objective of assessing the status of their sustainability transformation activities, including how digital transformation is contributing to achieving their sustainability goals.
In this survey, almost 70% are also setting a higher priority around sustainability. On the other hand, the survey revealed that many organizations are not yet implementing sustainability transformation.

Focus on Converging Technology – Fujitsu’s Collaborative Initiatives with WBCSD
The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) has recently published its framework on rapid and effective electric vehicle charging infrastructure (#EVCI), as part of efforts to accelerate investments in zero-emission vehicles and charging infrastructure in emerging markets and developing economies during the ‘Supporting a Global Transition to Zero-Emission Vehicles’ joint Zero Emission Vehicles Transition Council (ZEV-TC)-WBCSD side event at the Clean Energy Ministerial in Goa, India.
Fujitsu is one of the leading contributors to the new digital action framework, undertaking an EV charging trial for #WBCSD that highlighted the potential to achieve 15% CO2 emission reduction. Three members of the Fujitsu project team recently shared their insights about the trial, the lessons learned and what’s needed to promote these important activities further in the future in a blog – find out more here: https://okt.to/apzvW0
Fujitsu conducted the trial to optimize the schedule for charging commercial vehicles as part of the WBCSD's activities, promoting data sharing across industries to achieve decarbonization in transportation.

Transforming Manufacturing Worker Safety and Efficiency – with Fujitsu’s Actlyzer Digital Twin technology
Digital twin technology involves the collection of data from the real world, using cameras and sensors, reproducing the real world in a virtual space and then carrying out high-precision simulations to improve quality, reduce costs, and realize predictive maintenance. Importantly, it holds considerable potential for improving worker safety and digital twin technology.
We are conducting R&D on an AI called Actlyzer, which recognizes human action from on-site camera images. Importantly, we have made some important advances, making it easy to introduce digital twins in the field, utilizing existing cameras or by incorporating them into a large scale network. Within our new Actlyzer Digital Twin Collaboration Technology, we have developed automatic camera calibration technology and 3D action recognition technology that can easily and accurately map human action in images to a 3D space reproduced on a simulator.
