Take a Guided Fly Fishing Tour

As the Fly Fishing Capital of Georgia, Blue Ridge is host to many expert guides who know how and where to catch the big ones! By hiring a local fishing guide, you can learn the art of casting and catching fish like Rainbow, Brown and Brook trout in the gorgeous tumbling creeks and rivers in our area. Fly fishing is especially exciting when fall rolls around, when you can roll up your pants, get your feet wet, catch some fish, and admire the natural beauty around you.

Go Pickin’ at an Apple Orchard

There's nothing quite like picking a fresh apple straight from the tree! You can do just that at Mercier Orchards, a fourth-generation, family-owned and veteran-owned orchard that has been in business for 80 years. Explore the 300-acre farm, take in the breathtaking scenery, and make unforgettable memories with your loved ones. If you time your visit just right, you might even be able to pick out a pumpkin. Don't forget to stop by the market for some freshly baked goods, jellies, and more.

At the Folk Collaborative, you can arrange for a picnic basket through their market and find the perfect spot to spread out your blanket and enjoy your meal. For U-pick apples, they'll provide you with a map and baskets to explore the orchard on your own.

Go Off the Beaten Path

This area of the Chattahoochee National Forest offers an array of experiences for those with a 4-wheel drive vehicle. The drive along Noontootla Creek is a scenic treat, with its tumbling waters and lush forested mountainsides. It also provides access to some of the most popular natural attractions in the southeastern USA, including the famous Appalachian Trail on Springer Mountain, the Chattahoochee National Fish Hatchery, and Long Creek Falls, among others.

Scenic Countryside Drive

Located just a few minutes away from the Ansley Mountain & Lake offices in downtown Blue Ridge, the beginning of Ada Street offers breathtaking views of the countryside as it leads to another section of the Toccoa River at Curtis Switch. If you look towards the west, you'll see the rolling apple orchard of Mercier Orchards, and further in the distance are the ridges of the Cohutta Wilderness.

At Curtis Switch, you'll find a small canoe boat launch where you can dip your toes in the chilly water of the Toccoa River while admiring the fall leaves as they drift like little boats in the river's current. If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway train passing by on the other side of the river at the right time of day.
