Furniture trends 2020 - 2021

What are the furniture trends for this 2020? What are the most fashionable colors? And the materials? In this article we will discover all this but also how the impact of covid_19 has inevitably transformed them.

The trendiest materials and colors

In 2020, houses with different color tones, both for walls and furniture, are very popular. The trendiest colors in furniture are different. In the first place we should mention Classic Blue, the pantone color of the year, often combined with pale pink. Green and yellow are also among the most popular colors. If you love neutral shades, however, the most trendy shade is gray. The natural colors of woods, stone, marble, ceramics and therefore black, brown, white, red, sienna are also among the trendiest shades.

As for the materials, what makes the difference are the pieces of furniture made of several different materials: metal, wood, glass and leather coexist in a creative and original way. Among metals, silver, gold, tin and copper finishes are the most popular. The comeback of the 80s retro style, in fact, has also brought velvet back to the fore, very present especially on sofas and armchairs.

Furniture trends 2020 - 2021: modular spaces and extra-large formats

The trends regarding furniture for this 2020 and in all probability also for 2021, have had to deal with the sudden health emergency linked to covid_19 which has seen us all forced to change our lifestyle habits. Although the most serious phase of the contagion has passed, the rules imposed by social distancing have seen us forced to reconsider the spaces in which we live and work. The trend of dividing spaces and delimiting zones has become a necessity. The world of design has not been caught unprepared by this change and has come up with furnishing accessories that allow you to define areas of the home or work environment. These are solutions capable of creating modular spaces, furniture designed until recently for lofts (or small apartments), such as screens or dividing panels but also self-supporting bookcases. In this perspective, the tables should also be seen, which become oversized and extendable but always functional and minimal.

The environments are therefore fluid, space-optimized and multifunctional. We have experienced this with the lockdown: the house has become not only a home but also a working environment. The kitchens with island or peninsula therefore become dining rooms but also a place to work or study.

Eco-sustainable furniture trends

Ecology and sustainability are a recent trend that we hope will never go out of style. The environmental impact of some raw materials affects the choices of furniture and upholstery materials. More and more companies that, through innovation, find sustainable solutions for the environment, offering us beautiful and quality products. Sustainable furniture is made with wood obtained from responsible forest management, with natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, jute or hemp or with recyclable materials with very low formaldehyde emissions or other potentially harmful substances. The designers also aim for the recycling of plastic and the reuse of post-production waste.
