Future belongs to excellence : Men's 100M Olympics Finals

The Olympics has concluded and first of all hats off to paris for putting on a spectaculaor show despite multiple challenges and sabotage efforts by a few climate stakeholders.

In this article I hope to focus on a very special moment and result when the Men's 100M finals ended. The gap between 1st place and 2nd place 0.005 seconds. 5 thousandth of a second. The final tally in this one: Lyles 9.784 seconds, Thompson 9.789.

Over the years the gap between 1st and 2nd place has been diminishing. 0.2 seconds in 2012, 0.08 seconds in 2016, 0.04 seconds in 2020 and now 0.005 seconds in 2024.

When you compete in a world with such thin margins seperately the gold and the rest, one can take to heart the significance of the little things done right. One additional session of practice, one additional hour of meditation or simply a few additional seconds of concentration.

As a professional this could be that one news item about the latest market developments you looked at (or didn't look at), that one customer comment which you did read but your competitor did not or a analyst summary you thought of going through but never did.

Paying attention to all that is a part of excellence. The little things which 99% may not pay attention to but you do. That's what differentiates you. That's what changes the game, that's what can give you an edge compared to the rest and you walk home with the gold, even if the edge you had was, 0.005 seconds.

Welcome to the age of excellence. Are you ready to chase it ?
