The future of English assessment: PISA FLA and other milestones
When Andreas Schleicher from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recently described working with our experts in Cambridge as a ‘perfect partnership’ he couldn’t have put it better, writes Francesca Woodward from Cambridge University Press & Assessment.
He made the comments on a recent episode of Teachers Talk Tech Podcast. In this article, Francesca reflects on the episode which looked at the upcoming PISA Foreign Language Assessment (FLA), and other significant milestones on the horizon for English language learning and assessment.
“I recently teamed up with the OECD’s Andreas Schleicher to discuss the future of assessment for an episode of the Teachers Talk Tech podcast. Andreas leads the Directorate of Education and Skills at OECD. We’ve been working together since 2018 on the PISA Foreign Language Assessment (FLA), a large-scale survey which will show how English is taught and learnt in schools across the world.
PISA, the world’s largest comparison of educational outcomes, is carried out every four years. For the first time, the 2025 survey will include an assessment of English, using tests developed through a unique OECD-Cambridge partnership. The OECD and Cambridge share many values and ideas about the future of assessment. That’s why it was so fascinating to get together to discuss the survey, and the other big trends to look out for in the future of assessment.
