The Future of Remote Work: Building on the Power of Flexibility

Hello Riveters,

As the world shifts and evolves, so too does the way we work. The last few years have made it clear: the future of work is remote, flexible, and puts people first.

As a trailing spouse, a mom that needed more flexibility in my career and as a founder of a flexible work platform, I've been committed to this vision of a flexible future for over eight years. My mission has always been to create a world where flexible work isn't just a novelty, but the norm. This mission is rooted in the belief that flexible work empowers women and, in doing so, benefits everyone.

The product of that mission, Riveter Work (formerly Allobee), has come a long way since its launch in 2020. We've hit significant milestones that we're excited to share with you:

  • We've saved clients over 30,000 hours
  • We've injected over $2 million dollars into women's pockets through flexible, freelance, and fractional work
  • We've successfully completed over 5,000 projects with clients from Fortune 500s to non-profits, startups, and small businesses
  • We've brought on board over 1,500 highly talented and vetted professionals across all industries.

But most importantly, we've proven that flexible work doesn't just work, but it's essential.

In a recent article on Fortune, Erin Grau echoes these sentiments. She notes the resistance from some to the new, flexible norm, but emphasizes the importance of continuing to challenge and change this outdated system that has yet to serve us well.

Grau points out the fact that we've been stuck in the same corporate work norms since the late 1940s, and we’re still trying to fit modern families and changing gender roles into a work arrangement invented with the Model T. It's time we reimagine when, where, and even how we work to make meaningful progress toward gender equality.

She also reminds us that we all have a role to play in supporting flexible work. It's up to us to de-stigmatize flexible work and prevent it from becoming another mommy track. She asserts that "flexible work will continue to be a win for women as long as it doesn't come with penalties, like slower paths to promotions or relegating women to pink-collar fields."

She ends the article saying, “Just a few years ago, flexible work was a novel idea. Two years ago, it became normal. Today, it’s necessary. The future of our workplaces—the ones our children will inherit—depends on us getting this right.”

And at The Riveter, we're committed to doing just that. By pushing for flexibility and championing the value of women's work, we're reshaping the future of work, one successful project at a time.

Join us on this journey towards a more inclusive, equitable, and flexible future of work. Together, "We Can Do It!"

Best,

Brooke Markevicius
