1. Softening Job Market?

The Data: Forty-four percent of U.S. adults say it is a good time to find a quality job, while 50% say it is a bad time.

The Trend: Gallup measures Americans' views of the job market once per quarter. The latest reading, from October, is essentially unchanged from August but is lower than readings taken between August 2021 and April 2024.

2. Christmas Spending Bill

The Data: Gallup's preliminary reading on the 2024 holiday retail season, taken in October, finds Americans predicting they will spend an average of $1,014 on Christmas or other holiday gifts this year.

The Trend: These spending intentions are up from $923 in 2023.

My experiences with people who are in the job market claim it is worse that 2008-2009. So much of the data is unable to see the micro issues locally, regionally and by industry. Power has gone back to employers in many cases.
