GE Awards 2022: Another record-breaking year for entries
"Being on the GE Awards shortlist is not a given; you need to be able to showcase good collaboration, technical excellence, innovative thinking, value engineering, a sustainable approach and enthusiasm for what you do" - Nia Kajastie, editor of Ground Engineering.
Following a record year for entries, and after review by our panel of more than 70 expert judges, the winners of the 2022 GE Awards were announced on Tuesday 6 September 2022 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. The GE Awards brought together more than 800 clients, contractors, designers and geotechnical experts for a glamorous evening of celebration, recognition and networking. Nia Kajastie, editor of Ground Engineering, opened the awards ceremony, and we are bringing you a part of the atmosphere in the video below:

Get ready for GE's autumn conferences!
Ground Engineering is delighted to bring you GE Smart Geotechnics, an essential gathering that builds on the previous Instrumentation and Monitoring conference, aimed at anyone involved in monitoring and looking for up-to-date insight into projects, technologies and the use of cloud and AI. We asked some of the GE Smart Geotechnics speakers about what you can expect from the event:
Nick Sartain, head of geotechnics, HS2 Ltd:

"Conferences are all about the people, but on the technical side I’m most looking forward to the panel discussion on using data to manage risk and uncertainty, because that is the heart of geotechnical engineering."
I’ll be covering a client’s view of how digital technologies can improve productivity and sharing some examples of where we are doing this on HS2. Much of this topic is about how we communicate. As ground engineers we need to learn digital languages if we are to deliver on the promise of smart technologies.
Marta Roca Collell, principal engineer, HR Wallingford:
"Satellite monitoring can provide useful information, which can be integrated in asset management systems to help us monitor our infrastructure. I will be talking about how satellite technology can help us to monitor dams and detect changes or unusual weather conditions that could lead to dam failure"
I’m looking forward to the interesting speaker sessions to learn more about new uses of digital technologies to monitor and manage our assets. I would also like to take advantage of the networking opportunities to discuss with delegates the main challenges and solutions being applied in their businesses.
