GenAI Use Case of the Day - Your Child's Math Homework

Important disclaimer...this is to help parents review their children's homework. This is not for students to avoid homework!

If you spent the summer with children at home doing any self-learning, you are confronted with needing to know the answers to questions you didn't create. GenAI can help. Historically, people assumed chat solutions were not very good at math since they were trained specifically on words and language. But, the recent releases of all the major GenAI chat solutions now include both image analytics and the ability to do math directly or via python code. So you no longer have to look bad to your children. GenAI can ensure you still know more than your kids, for at least a few more years.

To do this, use your GenAI chat application to take a snapshot of your child's math problem and simply prompt "solve" and you will not only get an answer, but it will also show it's work as it reasons through a problem. This helps you check's your child's thinking as well as their answers.

4th grade was easy!

And, college calculus wasn't hard either. I will admit I have no idea if GenAI got it right, but it feels right.

Our jobs as parents never end. At least now we can get more help.

I used it myself to help last week! I'm good at math, but honestly, what 44 year-old who's not a math teacher remembers how to correctly simplify and factor algebraic equations?

Helping with math homework sounds like a win-win for both parents and kids.

Bret Greenstein Now that is a useful use case! 🙂 My challenge was my children learning a different method of solving the problem than I learned. Prompting to solve using a specific method would be super valuable!
