Just for fun: AI with ChatGPT inspiration

Answers in the Pot-Pourri

When I think of AI one of the first use cases that pops into my head is always ChatGPT although there are many others. Our upcoming event on AI has a worldwide audience and it made me think about who speaks what and where.

Questions: I have four quick fire questions inspired by our event theme for you now with the answers at the end of the newsletter in the Pot Pourri.

Q. Which city claims the highest number of English speakers?
Q. Which country has the highest number of French speakers?
Q. Where does Spain rank in size for number of Spanish speakers?
Q. Which city claims the highest number of German speakers?

Slack jobs looking for a role or advertising a role?

Have you seen our jobs channel

One question I am often asked through posting the Mainframerz newsletter is if I am aware of any job opportunities, and I would like to remind you that we do have a job board on slack.

If you see a mainframe role and would like to help others in the community, it is free to add them to our slack channel, this is one way we might help each other and support our Mainframe Community.

Details for the Slack channel are in the Links at the bottom of this newsletter.

IBM Tellum II Processor and IBM Spyre Accelerator?

Find out more

I thought with an AI inspired event taking place it would be interesting to share a little more about what this processor delivers.

❐ Here is the announcement by IBM about the new processor here:

❐ I have found a great video post where Ian Smalley discusses the new processor, which you can watch here:

The next Decade of AI has been mapped out

IBM into the future

I thought as our upcoming event is around AI, it would be interesting to look at a road map of what the future direction of AI could look like. I eventually managed to find one road map from IBM and Bryan White which I wanted to share.

→ 2024: #AI Trust & #Governance

Expect AI with built-in trust guardrails – privacy, fairness, and transparency will be at the heart of every decision.

→ 2025: AI That’s 5x More Efficient

We’re making AI training and inference 5x more energy and cost-efficient, bringing 200B+ parameter models to your enterprise.

→ 2027: Scalable AI at Enterprise Speed

Every 18 months, we'll double foundation model parameters without consuming more energy. By 2027, expect 4x energy efficiency.

→ 2029: AI Reasoning & Explainability

AI will advance to new levels of reasoning, with explainability and trust as core features, transforming enterprise workflows.

→ 2030+: Adaptive, Collaborative AI

AI systems will evolve into cognitive collaborators, mastering perception, memory, and even emotions for seamless human-machine interactions.

Recent Events: Busy few days

IBM z Day virtual event, Hugyourmainframe & Ada Lovelace Day

It seems like only yesterday that 'IBM z Day' ended it was actually on the 1st October 2024, then we followed up with 'hugyourmainframe day' and now it is already on the 8th October only a week after IBM z Day we celebrate 'Ada Lovelace day'.

Forget AI

What about the Mainframe?

A recent post by Broadcom and Jeff Henry has caught my eye. Jeff has posted some interesting facts ahead of a Broadcom webinar:-

❐ Nearly 80% of businesses expect to invest more in mainframe technology in the next two years

❐ ....more than 70% planning to use it (mainframe) for at least 5-10 years to perpetuity

You can read the full post and links to the webinar here:

Don't forget: Kyndryl via Petra Goude reported upon a recent Kyndryl survey which suggested 86% of customers are quickly adopting AI and generative AI to speed up their transformation initiatives. Read more here:

✨ 💬 Potpourri {mainframe & non-mainframe stories} ✨

Condolences: Ratan Tata (TCS)

Thank you to my friend Andy B. for sharing with me the the very sad news that Ratan Tata has sadly died. Andy like myself has worked on projects where we have taken over a project from Tata Consultancy Services and we have both separately worked on projects where TCS have taken over the projects.

One common theme was that all of the staff we have met who came from India to work on our projects spoke very highly of Ratan Tata and he was very well respected.

If you would like to know more about this man you read more about him via Wikipedia here:

The BBC have also wrote a short article about the passing of Ratan Tata which is available here:

Condolences from the Mainframerz to the Tata family.

Dark Oxygen

I know that Halloween is fast approaching and you probably think this post is in some way related to Halloween because of the word dark? Actually I wanted to share a new discovery that has turned science on its head.

I want to paint a picture of AI Datacenters that are getting hotter and hotter consuming ever more energy and that need to be cooled down the obvious answer is to use the cold water of the Oceans to help cool the Datacenter; but wait what if there is a breach and water comes in. I wondered could a recent new discovery help provide an emergency lifeline of oxygen to help?

Scientists have now discovered rocks that require no sunlight (dark) which are capable of interacting with the sea to create oxygen.

Could these same rocks by used to create a fuel source to help power a datacenter? Could oxygen be used as a fuel source it is highly flammable.

Chinese Government Hackers Infiltrate U.S Telecommunications Companies

A quick horror story as Halloween is approaching courtesy of The Cyber Security Hub™

US investigators suspect that the hackers may have gained access to wiretap warrant requests, though officials are still working to determine the full extent of the data that may have been compromised. AT&T, Verizon, and Lumen, major broadband and internet providers, were among the targets.

Telecom companies like these hold vast amounts of data from phone and internet communications. US law enforcement agencies often request access to specific data via court-approved warrants for use in criminal and national security investigations, some of which could be of significant interest to Beijing. In recent years, the US government has charged Chinese agents with harassing Chinese nationals living in the US and hacking American businesses and political dissidents.

I think this raises an interesting problem in the article it talks about information collected through wiretap warrant requests, what about other every day requests from people who are browsing for football scores, medical questions, recipes has all this data been captured as well.

I think we need disclosure of what information is being captured and when and what is the risks of this information being hacked and exploited, if the data is compromised who should compensate the victims here?

AI analysis of tweets?

One of the speakers at our upcoming event is Kevin Engelke and he is regularly creating new ways to implement AI.

If you dabble on the stock market, currency market or are thinking of buying a house or have a mortgage I could see as an Economist how this analysis of market sentiment could be applied.

I've trained an AI on 21,107 tweets to classify if the market is bearish 🐻 or bullish 🐂.

I used an embedder to get the semantic meaning of the tweet. Added a classification layer and now my AI does it +99% correct on the given dataset.

You wanna know how this works or see it in action? Write me!
