We were at one of the largest geosciences events in the United States, where professionals from all over the world gathered in Houston, a city known for both its energy industry and its scientific community. During a luncheon with extraordinary women, I was introduced to a woman with a determined gaze. "Hello, I'm a geologist, and I'm here at IMAGE with my company," she said with a confidence that immediately impressed me. What began as a casual conversation quickly turned into a fascinating journey through virtual reality applied to geology and collaborative platforms for professionals in the field. I was captivated by her passion as she spoke about her company, and within minutes, I discovered she was the creator of this innovative vision. This sparked my interest in learning more about Claudia Ruiz-Graham and her company, Image Reality.

During our conversation, Claudia shared how her journey at BP, one of the largest companies in the oil sector, was key in developing the idea behind her company. "BP gave me the opportunity to see the world through geology," she commented. However, when the industry began facing cutbacks and a significant amount of accumulated knowledge was lost, Claudia felt the need to preserve it and leverage it through technology. "I felt it was time to apply what I had learned and take a step forward with an innovative solution," she explained.

Claudia reflected on the challenges she faced during her career, particularly when she lost her job at BP. "It was a tough blow, but it made me realize it was time to start my own business," she confessed. Far from being discouraged, she saw that experience as an opportunity to reinvent herself. "I had to adapt quickly, but I did it with a positive attitude and a strong desire to learn," she added.

"Artificial intelligence will not replace geologists, but it will enable them to make more precise and informed decisions," she asserted confidently. "It’s also important to deeply understand the problem you want to solve and maintain constant communication with your customers. Flexibility and the ability to adapt are key to success."
