GETTING TO KNOW YOU - VLADISLAV TIKHONOV
What makes Altenar so successful? It has to be the people! Join us for another Q&A with our team as we speak to our DevOps Engineer Vladislav Tikhonov and learn all about his career, experiences and thoughts on the future of our industry.
How long have you been a member of the Altenar team and what made you want to join the company?
I have been with the company for two and a half years now. A colleague at a previous company invited me to join Altenar and it seemed like a really interesting project.
What are your main roles and responsibilities here at Altenar?
At the moment I am the technical lead of the AIP project. I am responsible for the operation of all infrastructure components when it comes to generating all reports. When something breaks in reports, it’s likely that I already know and I’m ready to deal with the problem.
What do you think makes you good at your job/what you do?
I think it's responsiveness and experience. I like to help my colleagues with any issues. I love to dive into any problem and try to solve it.
How does your department help the company reach its overall targets and goals?
We try our best not to let tasks build up, so we don’t delay the development process. We implement the latest tools and pay attention to the little things in the configuration and performance of our systems.

What are the key skills you need to be a success in your team/department?
Attentiveness and the ability to learn are the two most important skills in the DevOps profession. If a person can learn, I will teach him everything that is necessary.
Tell us about your career prior to joining Altenar?
I have been interested in computers since childhood. I started working part-time repairing computers in middle school. My first official job related to IT was as a technical support engineer for a large company in the city. There I was able to apply my skills and learned how to control other people's hands over the phone.
After that, my path in IT turned to system administration. I gained a lot of knowledge and experience related to servers, applications, networks and hardware. I gradually began to automate routine processes, immersed myself in the release cycle of applications and helped developers deliver their code to servers. It’s only later that I learned that what I was doing was called DevOps.
What did you want to do as a job/career when you were a child?
I always wanted to be a system administrator, I thought it sounded really cool!
Away from work do you have any hidden talents?
For a number of years in high school I worked as a stage technician, sound engineer and lighting designer.
What's your biggest achievement away from your work career?
My two beautiful children.
