My Running Journey: From Small Strides to Big Change

In 2016, my life took a new direction. With the arrival of my daughter, Aria, I realized I needed to embrace a healthier lifestyle—not just for myself but for her. At the time, I wasn’t particularly active (besides playing cricket on weekends), but I wanted to set a positive example for my family. So, I signed up for my first 10K. Crossing that finish line was transformative—it sparked a passion I never knew I had.

The following year, I ran my first marathon in Chicago, an experience that pushed me to my limits but left me wanting more. Since then, I’ve completed eight marathons, over 50 half-marathons, and countless other races. Running has become a lifestyle, teaching me resilience, patience, and the importance of celebrating progress, no matter how small.

Lessons from Running: A Metaphor for Life

Running has profoundly shaped how I approach challenges. Whether in a race or life, obstacles can be overcome one step at a time. Training requires showing up daily, embracing discomfort, and focusing on consistent effort. These principles mirror life itself, where persistence and adaptability often lead to success.

But what makes running truly special are the connections I’ve built along the way. Early on, amazing runners around me inspired me to see running not just as a sport, but as a lifestyle and a shared journey. Their camaraderie and support were transformative, especially during tough times.

When I faced injuries, friends slowed down to run alongside me, supporting my recovery through training runs and even during races. During the isolation of COVID, virtual check-ins, Strava updates, and celebrating each other’s successes reminded me of the strength in community. Sharing recommendations, swapping stories, and simply being there for one another turned running into something far more profound than logging miles.

These moments have shown me how deeply running connects us. It’s not just about personal goals—it’s about uplifting one another, celebrating progress together, and building bonds that transcend the sport. Running has taught me to embrace tough moments head-on, value the people who stand by me, and pay it forward. The friendships and shared resilience make every step even more meaningful.

Why I’m Running the Boston Marathon

This year, I’m honored to run the Boston Marathon on behalf of Team BAA Gives Back, an organization dedicated to inspiring active lifestyles and building stronger communities. Boston is more than just a race for me—it marks the completion of my sixth and final star in the Abbott World Marathon Majors. While this milestone is significant, running for Team BAA Gives Back gives the race a greater purpose.

I’ve seen how running transforms lives. Team BAA Gives Back empowers people of all ages and abilities to discover the joy of movement, the strength in community, and the power of resilience. Running has given me so much, and now I want to give back by helping others access these life-changing experiences.

Running for Something Bigger

The Boston Marathon represents perseverance, community, and purpose. It’s a celebration of how far I’ve come since those first tentative runs and a reflection of the people and experiences that have shaped my journey. Most importantly, it’s a chance to give back.

When I cross the finish line on Boylston Street, it won’t just be a personal victory—it will be a testament to what’s possible when passion meets purpose. Together, we can inspire active lifestyles, strengthen communities, and make a difference—one step at a time.

Thank you for supporting me on this journey. Your generosity means the world to me.
