Seth G. Jones (Senior Vice President; Harold Brown Chair; and Director of the International Security Program) statement before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affair August 8, 2021, (p.5) testified “domestic terrorism tactics and weapons have evolved over the past several years” referencing “explosives and incendiaries were the primary weapon in 50 percent of all attacks by white supremacists, antigovernmental militias, and other likeminded individual from 1994 to 2020”.

 His statement also highlights “firearms were the primary weapon used in 27 percent of attacks, making them the second most frequent type of weapon”. GK9PG understands that active and dynamic environments need a specialized solution for detection and mitigation of emerging threats, and we understand the threat of firearms is increasing both on the domestic scene and global theater.  Global K9 Protection Group leads the nation in this next generation capability with our KEDD teams advanced training methodology which includes firearms detection.  GK9PG’s goal across all strategies is to use the most innovative approach to best support canine operations in direct contact against a variety of threat-delivery systems: body-worn, concealed-carried, vehicle-delivered or static explosive materials and firearms.

 Our proprietary training methodology is focused on producing detection dogs with the ability to detect explosive materials and firearms across a variety of delivery platforms. Our operational guidelines put the right canine resource on-task to support a variety of threat mitigation strategies. GK9PG does not believe in a one-dog-fits-all solution resulting in our development of specific focused strategies. To develop and implement these strategies, GK9PG worked closely with the United Police Work Dog Association (UPWDA) to create the first national program of its kind.

 Through this UPWDA program, GK9PG provides independent certifications for our Kinetic Explosive Detection Dogs (KEDD) as well as our conventional Explosive Detection Dogs (EDD) ensuring delivery of the highest quality detection canines available. Our Dynamic K9 Program includes:

 Kinetic Explosive Detection Dogs [KEDD] are the next generation of specialized canines and the first program to be certified by the United Police Work Dog Association in the country. Our next generation capable KEDD teams support canine operations in direct contact against body-worn and concealed-carried explosive materials at stadiums, arenas, parks & attractions, and anywhere large crowds of people are gathering.  

 Enhanced Firearms Capable KEDDs can screen large crowds for both explosive materials and firearms. We understand a well-trained detection dog can follow odor to its source in a dynamic environment our enhanced firearms capable dogs are a critical tool all security professionals can deploy in their continuing efforts to keep people safe.

Explosive Detection Dogs [EDD] are a proven conventional technology solution designed to mitigate risk with a more traditional mission. Our EDD teams address a more static/concealment delivery methods: checkpoint operations, vehicle screen, critical-infrastructure, and un-attended items.

We understand that a well-trained detection dog deployed in direct contact against today’s domestic and global threats requires that we begin with the type of canine capable of supporting our next generation solutions.

 Building a world-class Dynamic K9 Program presents a set of unique challenges – canine selection, imprinting, customized operational capability, and leadership which all are critical to the success of our program. Finding the right partnerships which support our solution is critical to our program’s success and is responsible for our significant growth in the Sports and Entertainment market. Throughout our program development, we continuously work with the Canine Performance Sciences (CPS) program at Auburn University, who also supports our shared vision for innovation in canine detection technology.

Currently, all our Kinetic Explosive Detection Dogs (KEDDs) are selected from the CPS program. CPS is the leader in understanding the physical characteristics as well as physiological and psychological indicators required in breeding the most advanced detection dogs available. GK9PG, with the support of CSP, is working to advance the art and science of detection dog selection by actively participating in studies of the ongoing health, sociability, workability, and environmental soundness of our KEDDs during their working life.
