Global labor market insights: July 2023 edition
This month’s spotlight: Navigating the impact of climate change on the labor market
Welcome to the recent edition of our global labor market insights newsletter! This month's special topic was about the intersection of climate change and the labor market, exploring how rising temperatures shape job trends. As July marked the hottest month on record, we examine how this environmental challenge is driving shifts in the world of work. At the beginning of the report, we also explored broader insights from the global labor market.
In a nutshell, the global labor market remained relatively subdued in July 2023, experiencing a noticeable drop compared to the previous month.
The decline in job postings, particularly in the United States (down by 64% compared to the previous month), was the primary driver behind the overall decrease. Exceptions to this trend were Germany (+23%), France (+17%), and Australia (+13%). Fluctuations like these are common, especially during the vibrant summer months, often tied to vacation periods in Europe and North America.
