A GLOBAL TEACHER'S JOURNEY: "A Vision or Dream Board in the Making of a Global Teacher"

                                VISION: Dream Board

As global teachers, we have to have our own personal vision in life. Our own personal vision will chart the course of our life and set us in motion to do everything within our power to achieve something. Since we cannot, disassociate ourselves from aligning our own personal vision with that of the DepEd’s vision. It will serve as a guide in polishing our duties and responsibilities of where we are heading in our career progression and in our personal life as well. A vision board or a dream board is a mental picture of what we wanted to happen in our life. It is our own personal visualization of what the future is. We can do it in any way we like. We can place some creative graphics arts, media images, a collage, or wherever we wanted it to be placed. Being creative is also a reflection of our distinct likes and dislikes that makes our dream board unique.

In the course of my teaching career, especially in the subject: “Understanding Culture, Society and Politics”, I always gave a project for my students to do. I received some wonderful feedback on what my students seek to achieve in life. They have done it so creatively with all the artistic styles they wanted. Their dream boards make me truly appreciate the value of their wishes. It keeps me awake to the real truths that the world is such competitive and highly standardized .lifestyles. The complex imagery that their dream board portrays reflects an inward yet innocent longing of a learner to be successful someday. A global teacher knows how to link those dreams by letting them discover the hidden skills and knowledge they wanted to venture into. Uncovering their hidden potentials will truly be rewarding as they grow mature in life. So, how can we gauge and let them discover themselves? How can we guide them to achieve those dreams?

The following 4 P’s will guide them in the course of life;

1.) Passion - As a global teacher, one of my passion which I do really love to do is writing, storytelling, scriptwriting, societal and cultural aspects, and more importantly the love for laws and jurisprudence. If you could also tell them your own passion in life, it will inculcate them to think critically about their hidden aspirations. Passion will motivate them to do more and be the best of what they wanted to do. Asking themselves, what am I good at? What are the basic skills, talents, and abilities that I possess and wanted to develop? Among these skills, talents, and abilities, what is the most dominant? A sense of ownership of these dreams will fuel their passion and let them ask themselves their own purpose for doing it.

 2.) Purpose – Discovering and jotting down my purpose of the very reasons why I am doing it gives more meaningful substance and significance that I am not doing it for selfish reasons. The very reason why I love writing is that I want to be an inspiration to a lost and dying world where negativity exists. Imparting myself is also sharing of myself to others that the journey in life is not only for those strong and mighty but it is for those who never give up on their dreams. Letting the students understand their own purpose why they are so much passionate about doing it will help them excel in their chosen field of specialization. Of course, there are mature students who immediately grasp the idea behind it while some others take time to grow and mature. But, if you instill it to them that your own purpose will guide you to progress productively because it will help you to plan ahead.

 3.) Plan – Making our own plans give directions. There may be some rerouting in life but at least we are guided with our plans. These plans may be some simple steps, however, they will eventually bring into fruition what we desire to happen. Plans are necessary because without proper planning we will just be striking anywhere and readily accept the advice of others that does not align with ours. It is good to listen to others but the main person to make a decision is us so that we cannot blame others. We are responsible for the consequences of our own decisions.

 4.) Power – It gives us power over our own selves when we have the passion, the purpose, and the plan because we can navigate through life with authenticity. An authentic person does not need the praise and validation of other people. An authentic person has a strong grasp on his own unique life free from the control of what other people will say. Power enables you to stand grounded and founded on your own ideas and principles which will let other people stand in awe of you as a person. Nothing and no one can move us to despondency except our own mental conditions.

                                             Proverbs 29:18 says,

“Where there is no vision, people perish, but happy is he that keepeth the law.”

 May our vision be for what is right before the sight of God and men that we may

glorify God in all our ways! God bless all teachers worldwide!
