A Glowing Presence for the Wider Community: A remarkable OKASOLAR louvered Application.

Recognized as one of New York City’s premier live music venues, the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts was recently reopened in time to celebrate 40 years of great music and performances at Lehman College’s Bronx campus.

Inconspicuous, nearly invisible fixed solar control louvers strategically located within the glass units breathes new life into to a 1970’s brutalist structure.

The transparency of the enclosure was critical to our concept of visually opening the facility to the campus. Our goal was to design a high-performance, low-maintenance skin that maximizes the amount of daylight entering the space while controlling glare and solar heat gain. This was resolved by the two internal louver profiles of the OKASOLAR glazing units, which divert daylight to the ceiling and solar radiation to the exterior, creating comfortably-lit spaces seamlessly connected to the campus.” - Frank Michielli (Michielli + Wyetzner Architects).
