Goal setting made easy

Goal setting made easy

Let's dive right into the nitty-gritty of goal setting. Monica Watt here, your High Performance Coaching Consultant for business leaders, with 2024 looming lets get you goal setting quick and easy.

Here are 16 great strategies and prompting questions to get you moving towards setting your goals for 2024!

"Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible." Tony Robbins

1. Have a Priority Goal

What's your wildest dream? Make it your priority goal. If the thought induces a bit of anxiety, perfect—that's where growth happens! Have you ever felt that nervous buzz in the pit of your stomach before a big presentation? That's what we're aiming for.

2. Get Specific

Goals that aren't measurable are just wishes. So, are you allocating specific hours per week to your goal? Can you put a number on it?

3. Print Your Goals

Literally, print them out. Put them somewhere you can see. Change the position every day if you have to. How visible are your goals right now?

4. Keep 'em to Yourself

You know how people clap when you announce your goals? That might feel good, but it often saps your motivation to actually achieve them. Ever experienced that?

5. Determine Duration

How long do you think it'll take to achieve this goal? No vague timelines. Get specific.

6. Think in Intervals

Use 12-week or 3-month intervals. Imagine what you could achieve in just three months of laser-focused effort.

7. Good Old Pen and Paper

There's something tactile and real about writing goals down. Studies show that writing your goals connects deeper into your subconscious. Ever tried writing yours?

8. Be Exceptionally Precise

If your goal isn't easily measurable, then be crystal-clear about what actions you'll take. What does your to-do list look like for this goal?

9. Consistency is Key

Writers don't wait for inspiration; they set word counts. How can you apply this to your own goals?

10. Visualise to Energise

Before you dive into work, close your eyes and visualise your success. How does it feel?

11. Quick Focus Sessions

Spend 30-90 seconds concentrating on your goal before diving into a task. What else could you do?

12. Random Rewards

Treat yourself to some YouTube time or a lovely cuppa. When was the last time you celebrated a small win?

13. The Middle Problem

If you're stuck, break it down into smaller tasks. What's one small action you can take right now?

14. Peak Times

Did you know you have peak motivation times? FInd out yours and use them to your advantage.

15. Time Blocks

Set aside blocks of time for your goals, and don't let anything interfere. Sound doable?

16. Flexibility is Golden

Your well-being is tied more to how you feel about your day than to your diet or sleep. Serve your goals and feed your excitement. What gets you buzzing?

17. Test and Measure

A great addition, thanks to the fabulous Gerald Garcia . Assess the results of what you aimed to achieve, test it and start again with another goal or an even higher goal. How do you measure what matters?

So, what do you think? Ready to set some amazing goals and crush them?

I find the achieving goals akin to project management - for a client who doesn't know what they want, changes their mind mid-project and has no budget! Just kidding... In all seriousness, if I'm wavering I'll ask myself why because when I want to achieve something, I'll become hyper focused on it and get it done! It also helps if it aligns with my purpose.
