Goals Deconstructed PT. 1

Goals Deconstructed PT. 1

Goals are everywhere, you may have work goals, family goals, financial goals and goals provided to you from your company. Goals can be an extremely healthy and helpful tool to get you where you want to go. While goals can be valuable and instrumental, they can at times, feel overwhelming or even be an agent of disappointment and dissatisfaction.

I am personally, a big fan of goals; I love the excitement of having goals and finding ways to accomplish them. Recently, I have found myself questioning my ability to hit all the goals I have set for myself. I have 6 true goals for myself for 2024 and as we approach the halfway mark of the year, I cant help but question my capacity to reach some of the goals I have given myself, specifically around my personal goals.

Some questions I am asking myself about my commitment level are…

  1. Is this goal still important to me? If yes, why and what am I doing to course correct? If not, am I just taking the easy way out or do I really not care to hit the goal anymore?
  2. Why is it still important? Is my why enough to propel me to success? Am I more concerned about my comfort or my why?

Those are all basic questions to ask yourself, right? Yet something has bugged me to go deeper. And here are the questions I am now asking myself.

1.      Is my character able to withstand the pressure of the daily obstacles that get in the way of my goals that I am failing at?

2.      Am I fearful of doing everything in my capacity to accomplish the goal, if so what am I scared of and why?

3.      Will I be prouder of myself for going after these goals or for re-prioritizing my life and removing these goals?

I wish I could give you my answers but am currently still in process of answering these deeper questions and will have answers soon.

I encourage everyone to have goals and stick to them if they are truly important. I look forward to updating my progress in the coming weeks.
