Going back to School - by choice!

Going back to School - by choice!

Sometimes it is not all hard work at Madison - Kea and I were delighted to be asked to deliver a workshop to the students at Rangitikei College last Thursday. This is not something that we have been asked to do before and to be fair thought it might be a little scary - we pictured attendees playing with their phones, no questions being asked,  tumbleweed at our failed jokes trying to be cool.  I am delighted to report the total opposite was true.  We were greeted with bright smiles, lots of questions and participation from all of the students.  They were keen to know how to best present themselves to future employers and also how to get that oh so important "experience" to help them along the way.

We were also delighted to hear that some of the students had already completed some work experience with Trade Me, NZME and DOC.

Our brief was to deliver an interactive workshop to help the students with the following:

How to create a CV, cover letter, LinkedIn Profile and the do's and don’ts of social media.

Kea and I took a lot away from our time with them. It was fantastic to see that the school is supporting them on their transition to further education or the work place. Jeff King the Vice Principal clearly has a great relationship with his students; he wants to ensure that they get assistance on navigating this  daunting journey. I wish I had a teacher like that when I was at school,  I might have spent more time there!

A stunning session that really opened a lot of eyes, including my own. One student commented afterwards that you need to go to every school in NZ and deliver this presentation, I completely agree!
