A Good Man...

A Good Man...

In the UK and Ireland, we often use the term “Ahh good man” as a form of agreement or acceptance of what you are discussing...

..just the other day this occurred for the first time in a while (not been back home for quite a while) and it hit me.

Am I a “good man”?

Or, what really is a “good man”?

It made me think. Reflect.

If you asked me this 5 years ago and I was honest, would I have said I was a good man?

Truthfully probably not, well I wouldn’t of said that I was a bad man maybe, perhaps, a little lost. Like I feel most men are.

Today I feel like I am a good man, a better man. But do I feel like I am the best man or the best version of myself I can be?

I hope not. I have a little way to go.

Of course everybody’s definition of a good man is different or definition of a good man likely differs from mine.

But for me, what really is a good man?

I believe a good man is to quote Jordan Peterson

"A harmless man is not a good man. A good man is a very dangerous man who has that under voluntary control"

A good man is honest, tough, supportive, caring, grounded, consistent strong, determined and focused.

How many of those qualities would I have had five years ago, a few?

Today more than ever I feel like I am becoming a good man the man I strive to be.

Having spent the last number of years with incredible mentors, incredible men, strong men, grounded men, and focused men I have been able to adapt, learn and grow.

Being a good man is a decision.

Every morning when you wake up you have a decision and choice to be a good man or to blend into weakness.

Now this to me is no different to being a good women or a strong women.

In truth I feel women possess some incredible qualities that us men lack and areas perhaps that we can adapt and learn from.

Have I finished my journey?

Not at all.

Every morning I still have the same decision, to be courageous, to be strong, to be grounded, to be focused and to be a leader.

Take some time today and ask yourself what’s your definition of a “good man”?

And the most important question..are you moving closer or further away!
