GREAT LEADER - THE TEACHER

GREAT LEADER - THE TEACHER

Everything shared below is true to my knowledge. I might not be the best person to share the wisdom Dr. APJ Kalam Sir shared but trying to share a bit of it.

  1. Respect Everyone, even flowers: During his visit Abroad, he found a beautiful flower with not so good name, he decided to do justice by requesting everyone during his meetings to change the name of the flower. After 1 year of time, he received an update that the name is changed for that flower.
  2. Be Humble: During the Parliament session in Andhra Pradesh, he asked the Camera Man to please have a seat once the photography was done. He believed that it is painful to see someone standing during the whole session.
  3. Be kind: During many school meetings, he found one of the school hasn't made proper shed arrangements for the students and he shared during the talk, Dear Students, I feel your pain and I would request the management to make necessary arrangements next time as it is too much heat because of the Sun.
  4. Be on Time: It was a usual practice to make sure to make it on time for all meetings, lectures, and discussions. During his last day at IIM Shilong, he was running a few minutes late, his team offered him tea for refreshment as they have traveled for quite a long distance but he rejected stating that students are waiting for him in the seminar hall. Let me start.
  5. Be Compassionate: He told his advisor not to go near the plants during the afternoon walk in the garden. His advisor asked what happened Sir. He replied there is a honeybee taking nectar from flowers and we must avoid disturbing it, as it is working for the whole community.
  6. Give Back: He interacted with lakhs of youth during his last few years.

Write down a few things you will start today inorder to Giveback to society?

  1. Hunger for knowledge: He had 3 books in his handbag during his last flight to IIM Shilong when his advisor asked why you are carrying so many books. He replied - one of the books is about to finish, 2nd one may not be good enough so I have to make sure to have an extra one as I want to utilise this commute time.
  2. Growth for Everyone: During an event with Media people, he sat on the floor and shared his definition of Economic Development. Economic Development A+B+C, A = Growth in G.D.P, B = How many people are removed from poverty line, C = Value system like Joint Family [Source]
  3. Age should not be a barrier to growth: In his Biography, he shared that it is always there that one person is tested for his talent on the basis of his/her age. He always has this mindset to Spot the Talent and Nurture them. [Source]
  4. No gift policy/ No Special Treatment: His father taught him a lesson that no gift should be accepted by the public and that we should just focus on serving. During his address at the University, he rejected to sit on a special chair as he believed that everyone is equal.
  5. Be Authentic: He rejected pre-prepared questions and ask for open questions during a school session [Source]

Bonus: The golden rule to Achieve Goals: 1. Great aim, 2. Continuously acquiring knowledge, 3. Hard work, 4. Perseverance [Source]
