Green Energy - 10 Facts

Green Energy - 10 Facts

Switching to green energy is becoming more important for businesses, amid a global environmental crisis.

These 10 facts reveal the history behind renewables and highlight their effectiveness as we look to a carbon free future.

1.     Fully green energy can be provided by us, at the same cost as non-renewable sources and in many cases, green energy plans are some of the cheapest available.

2.     One offshore wind turbine can generate enough electricity to power up to 1,300 small offices in a year.

3.     The smart meter initiative is predicted to save £1.4 billion in energy savings by 2030 for non-domestic customers

4.     Solar power isn’t just a daytime thing. Power from the sun’s rays can be stored in molten salt and used at night too.

5.     In 1921 Albert Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his discovery of the photoelectric effect, hence solar panels.

6.           Solar power is the most abundant energy source on Earth. There's enough solar energy hitting the Earth every hour to meet all of humanity's power needs for an entire year.

7.           Romans were the very first to use geothermal energy to heat their homes, with warm air moving under floors and inside walls.

8.           Renewable Energy creates 5 times more jobs than fossil fuels.

9.           Renewable energy production accounted for 31% of the UK’s total electricity generation in 2018, 3.3% higher than 2017.

10.        46% of business energy is consumed outside of 8am-6pm which highlights a need for improved energy efficiency such as ensuring computers are turned off.
