"Grinding" Isn't the Answer

"Grinding" Isn't the Answer

In recent years, there's been a trend of people overworking, hustling, and grinding 24/7.

This post is here to tell you that "grinding" is not enough to achieve your goals in a healthy manner.

There’s really no point in working hard if you’re not taking care of your body, your mental health and your emotional health.

From doing research for my book, I’ve learned that nearly every successful person knows this and consciously reverse engineers their life to optimize for efficiency in all aspects — not just working hard.

This means staying hydrated, taking vitamins and eating healthy to boost your efforts from your workouts — knowing that the momentum will help you when you’re working on projects.

This means sleeping 7-8 hours every single night so that you have the energy and mental focus for those grueling workdays.

This means unplugging from work and setting barriers to keep your mind from exhaustion and overstimulation.

In 2016, I worked harder than I ever have and ever will in my life.

That period of my life was a wake up call.

My diet was shit, I was sleeping 4.5 hours a night because I’d overwork during my day job and then I’d hit the gym, followed by another 6-9 hour night working on my craft and brand as DJ.

I really thought I was winning.

I thought I was grinding and getting things done.

I did that every single day for about a year.

Eventually, I found that I was isolating myself so much from overworking, that I was disconnected from family and those closest to me.

I hit a wall of exhaustion that took about 2 months of sleeping 8+ hours every night in order to get over.

Working hard alone isn’t the answer.

Supplementing it with the tools, levers, and structure that ensures you’re getting the most output for your input is.

All the while, keeping in mind that success is never defined by what you have, but who you can share it with and who you’re able to impact.

Get your sleep.

Set those barriers.

Spend quality time with loved ones.

Make time to do nothing and decompress.

And don’t lose focus of your short, mid, and long-term goals.
