Grow For Me has provided GCX with Neogen Raptor (Testing Machine) and training valued over GHS 40,000.
In line with ensuring that commodities such as maize, soybean, sorghum, millet and more meet the quality standard needed for food-grade processing, Grow For Me has provided GCX with testing machines and training valued over GHS 40,000. The machine can enable the exchange to run full Mycotoxin analysis including Aflatoxin, Fumonisin, Ochratoxin and many more for commodity brokers supplying commodities from the northern and middle belt of Ghana. During the one-day training, the GCX warehouse manager in charge of the Tamale warehouse Mr Benjamin Kumi explained the benefit of having a detailed Mycotoxin tool on the commodity market.
Mr Kumi said, “This machine will enable commodity aggregators and brokers to save a lot of time when it comes to testing for mycotoxins. There will be no need to travel to Accra to run these tests before transporting aggregated commodities to off-takers and processors in Accra”
Mr Nana Opoku Ware Ofori Agyeman-Prempeh, CEO of www.growforme.com added “We realised the need to support the growth of Ghana’s commodity aggregation and trading markets when we saw the challenges associated with testing commodities before supplying feed and food processors. Many times, we observed how trucks, fully loaded with 50 metric tonnes of maize, (1000 thousand bags of 50kg maize bags) were rejected by feed and food processors at their factories due to poor quality of the grains. These experiences do not only destroy businesses but also cripple farmers and brokers. It prevents them from consistently aggregating commodities from farmers and selling to off-takers. By providing mycotoxin analysis machines, farmers, brokers and processors can easily and quickly run a full test on batches of commodities before buying and supplying.”
This successful intervention was possible due to the partnership and existing MOU between Grow For Me and Ghana Commodity Exchange to provide a ready market and instant payment for commodities that are brought to any GCX warehouse across the country. Payments are made through Grow For Me’ Micro Aggregator Platform or *800*008#.
