Guided by The Gospel – Issue 118 (God in the Workplace: Witnessing Through Work)
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
In every workplace, we have a unique opportunity to be a witness for Christ. This doesn’t always mean speaking openly about faith—it means letting your actions, character, and integrity point others to Him. In Matthew 5:16, Jesus teaches, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Witnessing through work is about reflecting God’s love and values in every task, conversation, and decision. Whether through your kindness, your commitment to excellence, or your ability to remain calm under pressure, your life can testify to the transformative power of faith. In Colossians 4:5-6, Paul advises, “Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”
Workplace Scenario: Reflecting Faith in Everyday Interactions - A colleague who knows you’re a Christian confides in you about a personal struggle. You feel unsure about how to respond. Should you offer advice, share your faith, or simply listen?
Biblical Insight: Witnessing begins with compassion and a readiness to meet people where they are. In 1 Peter 3:15, we are reminded, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” Your response, rooted in grace, can open doors for deeper conversations about faith.
A Prayer for Witnessing Through Work - Heavenly Father, Thank You for placing me where I can reflect Your love and truth. Help me to witness for You in my workplace—not only through words but through my actions, integrity, and kindness. Give me wisdom and courage to share my faith when opportunities arise, and let my life point others to the hope I’ve found in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

What the Bible Says About Salvation - While our actions can point others to Christ, salvation comes through faith in Him alone. In Acts 4:12, Peter declares, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” As we witness, we share the good news that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.
Witnessing in the workplace isn’t about preaching—it’s about living a life that honors God and draws others to Him. By embodying faith in our daily work, we have the privilege of pointing people to the ultimate hope and joy found in Jesus Christ.
With Hope and Faith,
Edward C. Thomas
