Guided by The Gospel - Issue 6 (Discipleship)

Greetings, my fellow Bible explorers!

Today, we explore another pivotal topic within our Christian journey - discipleship.

What does it mean to be a disciple, and why is discipleship so important in our walk with Christ?

Have you ever considered what it truly means to be a disciple of Christ? And how does this discipleship shape our identity and purpose as followers of Jesus?

Of course, the Bible offers profound insight into the essence of discipleship. Jesus Himself outlined it in Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV), "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."

On many occasions, the Bible speaks clearly about the nature and significance of discipleship:

1. John 13:35 (NIV): "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another."

2. Luke 9:23 (NIV): "Then he said to them all: 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.'"

3. 2 Timothy 2:2 (NIV): "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others."

4. 1 Corinthians 11:1 (NIV): "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ."

5. Mark 8:35 (NIV): "For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it."

6. John 8:31 (NIV): "To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, 'If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.'"

Being a disciple means walking in Jesus' footsteps, embracing His teachings, and sharing His love with the world. It's about surrendering our lives to Christ, shaping our choices around His teachings, and guiding others to do the same.

As such, discipleship isn't just about following—it's also about leading. As we grow in faith, we're called to make disciples, in other words, to lead, by passing the torch of faith to others and helping them discover the transformative love of Christ.

Discipleship is not a solitary endeavor—it's a community journey. We grow together, learn together, and lean on each other. It's a blessing to share this journey with you in this very way through this very newsletter!

As we conclude this discussion on discipleship, take a few moments to reflect:

1. How has your understanding of discipleship changed over time?

2. What actions do you take daily to be a disciple of Christ?

3. How do you guide others in their journey toward discipleship?

4. How have other disciples influenced your own spiritual journey?

5. How do you practice discipleship in your interactions with others?

6. How do you handle the challenges and sacrifices that come with discipleship?

As always, it's a joy to explore these biblical truths together - publicly. Your thoughts, experiences, and questions are always welcome. And don’t hesitate to share the Guided by The Gospel newsletter with anyone you think might be interested in learning more or corporately exploring the mighty Word of God.

Have a blessed week and here's to another week of being Guided by The Gospel!
