Habits that make your brand less loveable

We all know the saying;

Your brand is what other people are saying about you when you're not in the room.

And whilst that is the truth, have you ever thought about why people might be having a little gossip about you and your brand?

Well, it's probably because over the years you have picked up some nasty habits that are in fact holding you and your brand back...a lot.

Whilst some of us may turn our noses up at larger brands and their message, there is obviously something that many are doing right, and a lot are doing wrong.

Now, before you feel 'seen' in the wrong sense, I just wanted to let you know that all of us, and I mean ALL, of us, have picked up a fair few habits in our lifetime, whether good or bad.

As James Clear, the man of habit cracking, states;

Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.

So let's dive into some habits that will in fact make your brand less loveable.

Are you too professional?

If you are having to ask, then the answer is probably yes.

By being too professional you risk losing your true sense of sense and end up showing up as somebody else.

You are you for a reason, therefore if you are hiding your personality by showing up as someone you're not, you are only fooling yourself.

Professionalism as a whole has changed over the last few decades and whether you are corporate or freelance based, you do not need to cross the t's and dot the i's all the time.

Are you following the crowd?

Stop looking to other people before making the move yourself.

You are your own person as we have already covered, therefore whilst it's amazing to look at what is happening around you and being on-trend, you have to ensure that you are doing things for you, not just because the influencer says it's great...

Whilst every industry in the world is noisy, you can stand out as yourself by just being you.

Your grid, your quotes, your story...they are yours, be the shepherd, never the sheep.

Are you too salesy?

Selling isn't that fun the majority of the time, but sometimes we can oversell our offer.

The typical 'let me shove my sales pitch down your throat 10x until you know what I do but then run away in fear from me' moments, are not the ones you are looking for.

You form connections and trust through the value in which you provide, if you are constantly on a panicked mission to sell, people will smell if from a mile away and run for the hills.

Are you being consistent?

We have all heard it - consistency is key.

And whilst I do believe it, you have to ensure your consistency is in alignment with your values and how much you want to be showing up.

As humans, we all have our good days and our bad days, and sometimes we don't want to show up.

This is okay.

But we have to remember that if we go on long breaks, how do you expect your audience and social media platform to feel?

Engagement dips are normal, along with having zero content days.

However, my tip for success here is, ensure that you have a strategy in place to keep you up to speed and in the loop when it comes to where you are showing up and how.

& if you have the capacity and means to outsource.

Do it.

Are you even standing for something?

Last but not least, and more importantly one of the most prominent is are you even standing for something?

You are running your business for a reason, but do you have a deep-rooted why and values to match?

If not, why so?

Your mission, vision, value system and offering are all connected.

If you are unable to show what you truly stand for, will your ideal audience ever deeply understand you?

Final Thoughts

Your habits make up the majority of your day, and whilst breaking old habits is hard, falling into old patterns is worse.

Know your worth, know your why & start creating the impact you know you truly deserve to create.

Your brand is you.

Make sure it's connected.
