Hamilton

Lookit, there may be room for a conversation about whether or not the Hamilton cast should have addressed the presence of the VP Elect. What I'm more interested in is those people who criticize the move because they think theatre is supposed to be devoid of political opinion or a pure escape from reality. If that's what you believe about theatre, please, never go see another play again. If all theatre is to you is merely a pleasant distraction then I invite you to stay home.

If you think Hamilton, in particular, is apolitical then you REALLY don't understand the play itself. I mean, it's a play about an all minority cast encouraging others to 'rise up' against the one white character in the show who represents authoritarianism and privilege. If you don't think Miranda is making a politically charged statement then I suggest you don't understand art at all.

Hamilton' cast delivers message to VP Pence

Whoever chooses politics as a job (as did Pence but not Trump) should have a thick enough skin to stand up straight even without a backbone...Not understanding or understanding art is a side issue as frankly many people have no notion of the motion in the ocean when it comes to art and think it's just there to be loved or hated..

Theater can be whatever it wants to be, but where the cast crossed the line was calling out an audience member and lecturing him. THAT's what theater is NOT for. If they wanted to make a general statement to the entire audience, fine, but we're the VP-Elect not present, they wouldn't have even fine what they did, and we wouldn't be discussing it today.
