A Happier Frame of Mind
The holiday season is rapidly approaching yet you probably know that it’s often a time of additional stress, fatigue, rushing around and irritation. Judging from the people I work with, the most popular option at this time of year would be to spend more time in bed and catch up on sleep! Are you ever tempted to hibernate and wake up again in time for Springtime? Fortunately, there are plenty of positive alternatives that can help you to enjoy the holiday season and today seemed like a good moment to mention some of them.
The first suggestion is probably the most important because it’s about choosing a very positive attitude. Your expectations create a very efficient frame for filtering information and a positive outlook will help you to see everything in a more positive light.
Practise mindfulness. Notice how you’re feeling and remember to detach yourself from the regular flow of your thoughts. Smile and open a space for you to choose how you want to feel. Make a point of laughing to break the old patterns of stress. Breathe deeply and let go of any hint of anger or frustration. Don’t let anyone intrude on your inner peace.
It’s very helpful to make time for additional rest. Catching up on sleep can work wonders for your wellbeing. You’ll feel more tolerant and less irritable. Keep hydrated, especially if you’re drinking more alcohol than usual. Set aside time every day to relax, to breathe, to fill your heart and mind with warm, positive, happy thoughts and feelings. It’s a basic form of meditation that will have a huge impact on your peace and wellbeing. Be the presence that instils calm in the hearts of others. Don’t join in when people display negative or inappropriate behaviour. Become an island of serenity that remains beautifully untouched by the chaos of the world. The benefits for your health are incalculable and you might find that your example exerts a positive influence on the people around you.
These principles are highly appropriate during the holiday season but they are so beneficial that you’ll want to make them an integral part of every day. Go ahead. Be the change you want to see in the world.
