Dr. Niobe Way will discuss her new book, Rebels with a Cause: Reimagining Boys, Ourselves, and Our Culture, which draws on four decades of research with boys and young men to explore the roots, consequences, and solutions to our crisis of connection—evident in rising rates of depression, anxiety, loneliness, suicide, and violence.
‘Tis the season for the holidays…and celebrating partnerships! 🎉 🥳
This December, we mark 1 year of partnership with the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program. Youth ChalleNGe is an alternative program that offers youth the opportunity to change their future. Participants looking for a way to succeed outside of a traditional school setting learn self-discipline, leadership, and responsibility while working to obtain their high school diploma or equivalency. After attending quasi-military residential programming, graduated cadets receive targeted mentoring through MentorPRO’s mobile app and web-based platform to support them in their post-residential goals.
Starting with just 6 Youth ChalleNGe Academies in December 2023, the partnership has now expanded to 19 Academies across the United States. This milestone represents the countless connections made to support today’s youth across the nation.

Mentoring Changes Lives—But It Transforms Mentors Too!
A new study by authors Virginia Snodgrass Rangel and colleagues in the journal Mentoring & Tutoring: Partnership in Learning investigated how the benefits of mentoring evolve over time for undergraduate mentors in a STEM-focused afterschool program for elementary school-aged students. The researchers examined the experiences of 30 undergraduate mentors who served between one and six semesters from 2017 to 2022, to explore their reported benefits of having served as a mentor.
The study was longitudinal, collecting data through semi-structured interviews with mentors who worked with elementary school students; most mentors were engineering majors.

Flash Mentoring: An Innovative New Approach to Building Social Capitals
This workshop explores flash mentoring as a novel approach to help marginalized youth build social capital for upward mobility. Attendees will learn about the importance of social capital, gaps in access for marginalized groups, and the current state of evidence in mentoring. The core focus is flash mentoring - short, focused interactions connecting youth with diverse mentors to achieve specific goals.
Step Up 's Digital Community will be highlighted. Benefits like efficient access to new connections and challenges like mentor recruitment will be discussed. The goal is to understand how flash mentoring provides increased access to bridging capital for marginalized youth.
MentorPRO Academy is excited to offer a new Certificate in Effective Mentoring!
Awarded to mentors who complete four transformative courses, this certification equips mentors with essential skills in communication, leadership, and support strategies, enabling them to make a greater impact. By applying these skills, mentors not only enhance their personal growth but also empower their mentees to achieve their goals with confidence and a stronger sense of support.
