The first words out of my mouth after reading the inital words about Leadership and Humility were, Amen and Amen. As a Nurse Executive for many years, I have always been committed to actualizing the prinicples of my faith in my leadership assisgnments. Decades ago when I served as Chief Nurse at the East Orange VA Medical Center, I coined the term Caring for the Caregivers. As the executive accountable and responsible for the delivery of Nursing Care to hundreds of inpatients and ambulatory care patients, my expectation/standard that all Nursing employees provide care to all patients that was safe, compassionate, culturally competent and therapuetic could only be actualized, if I , in turn assured the staff that I would care for and meet their needs. Humility, Respect, Trust are essential strategies for the successful, competent, exceptional servant leader.
