It has been one year since I’m the CEO of Grindeks

A huge amount of work has been done during the year and the results speak for themselves. Turnover, profit, the number of our export countries and the development of new products is increasing. It pleases!

Moreover, this is despite an extremely difficult economic year in all areas, including pharmaceuticals. How did we, Grindeks Group’s companies, get it done, and what motivated me?

First, an endless trust in my work and my own goals. I’ve always been inspired by personalities who have devoted themselves entirely to achieving something grandiose. Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Winston Churchill and other prominent people are known to have worked more than 80 hours a week on one stage of their careers.

In this, particularly important, year of global crisis, my timetable is coming to this. I was getting interested in how much I have worked since 04.02.2020 to 04.02.2021. I found out that I worked in office for 272 days and 2989 hours in total. Most importantly, all this time I was pleased with what I was doing.

Secondly, clearly visible objectives as well as mechanisms for achieving them. When you realize that actions needs to be taken and your actions bring results, it indescribably inspires and gives you the power to move on. The difficulty is hardening you and making the mind sharper, the spirit stronger, and the will steely.

Thirdly, self-discipline and strategic thinking. No success was achieved in one day. It’s the result of small steps every day. It’s also important to know which direction to take such steps and where to move the entire team. Of course, the team’s work in implementing the strategy is one of the fundamental elements of success.

When the head of the company changes, there is usually a general uncertainty what the new CEO will be. You are looked at as a captain by all the employees, and it depends on you where the ship will sail, what course and speed it takes. Once a person is appointed to CEO position, the first, starting year of his operation is very important. I’d say it's like the foundation of a house. Covid-19 helped to build this foundation in a much shorter time because it had to adapt very quickly to the new circumstances. It succeeded.

20 years ago I started my job in Grindeks as a laboratory assistant who studied chemistry at the same time on 2nd grade, and one year ago I got appointed to CEO position. My main lessons of this year:

1. The year passed in a flash.

2. If you act quickly, you can really accomplish a lot in one year and achieve good results.

3. Strategic changes can also be implemented quickly in a company with rich history.

4. You are still being compared, although you have already proved everything with your work.

5. There is a passion for working, full-return 😀.

I would like to thank Grindeks team and partners for your support!

Very well done, Juris!
