Have you discovered the magic of your Shook yet?
Take The Lead Edition 22: How writing a Self help Book for your Business can Elevate Results
Rewind to November 2020 and I launched my book. It was the middle of the pandemic and no meet the Author events happening. It was time to get 'creative'...
Here's three Cheers, Cheers, Cheers to the 5042 people who have joined us because being curious about conversations that count in business makes you unique. Together we continue to 'Find & Speak'.
Where you find value please share with me your thoughts and with the curious people in your network. Sharing really is caring.
Getting creative in business feels like the Number One must have these days.
These were all questions I was asking through 2020.
When the rug is pulled from under you, there are two choices.
You're all in or you're not.
Some would say you survive or thrive. For me, there's only ever one option.
Go all in!
So those questions we all probably asked ourselves back in 2020 and find on a rinse and repeat more often than we like?
It was all about finding something constructive to do with the time available (I suddenly had lots of time available) that would be helpful to many who didn't have the cash available to thrive.
Spending may hours in my office, scratching my head, attending different free 'quick rich' webinars (blimey there were a lot of those, weren't there?!)
The answer wasn't 'out there'! It was within me!
One day I got frustrated with the seemingly waste of time I was spending looking for the 'silver bullet'. Sound familiar?
Instead, I decided it was time to tidy my desk and clear away all that was not serving me now. One thing lead to another and I was pulling out folders and opening drawers to put it away.
That's when I spied some old folders with notes from delivering training with various clients.
I dug deeper
After a couple of hours my office floor was littered with material that went back decades!
Knowing I was onto something, I began putting it into an order.
My training folder just got 4 x fatter!
This is my book
Within a matter of a few days I had assembled the framework to a work shop style book. One that blended me sharing my insights and that allowed the reader to write in it to make notes and start to create their own campaign.
I was inspired.
I was driven to make it a reality.
I leaned into a book that is still my number one recommendation in business 'They Ask, You Answer' by Marcus Sheridan.
This process was literally on brand.
It is another medium to start a conversation
Creating the book was only part of the journey. Knowing it would be affordable, helpful advice to many who need to strike up new conversations for the life blood of their business is one thing.
How was I going to get the book out there?
Who would want to read it?
It became my topic of conversation, I joined networking groups, I gave it away, I sent it to past and current clients, I added the links to my email signature, I went on podcasts...

Day of launch was exhilarating. Gaining the gold badge from Amazon for three categories. The reviews that followed.
Best Seller Status
However, the best part is when someone you haven't pushed in their face says it's helped them. Best ever!
That little book that takes an hour and half to read is still helping me help others today.
Sure, I would probably change a few elements of it and of course some of the features on using software have changed (everything moves on so fast) but the fundamentals are evergreen.
In the dark I found the light
Turning a negative time into a productive one will never be a regret.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Marcus for the second of my 'let's get creative' projects of 2020 and able to thank him in person.
Marcus did what I hope all guests will do and he shared the bones of what TAYA is and how it's a worldwide marketing phenomenon.
There are many books on my shelf I still need to find the time to get around to reading. Seth Godin's new The Carbon Almanac is high on my pile.
Steven King is right when he says each book is uniquely portable magic.
Will you right a book?
What could you share with the world in a book? I'd love to know what it would be about.
Having your own business book could be the difference in getting 'creative' with your marketing.
It could elevate you to the expert in your field you already know you are.
If you're not sure whether writing a book is a good idea, I'd encourage you to listen to this business conversation I had with Mike Capuzzi a couple of weeks ago.
Mike is the creator of Shooks. The Self Help book.
Hence my title, are you ready to discover the magic of your shook.
Here's the bullet points of what you'll learn:
You’ll hear:
"Now, rather than just marketing one book to one kind of target reader, now they have three target readers and it gives them even more opportunity."
