HD Consulting gets a business makeover…

Creating a new brand identity was always part of my business update plan.  I started last year with my website and finally during the covid19 lockdown got around to updating my logo and its font and brand colours.  After 11 years with a logo that wasn’t really a logo and a name that didn’t quite work anymore, it really felt like I needed a change.  A change that would reflect a new direction and approach.

I’ve known Jon Barraclough since my days working for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic with his then company Non Conform Design, and I knew he would be the perfect person for the job.  I have always loved his approach to design and typography which is grounded in being a practising artist.

Having invested in a great photoshoot for the website it was time to address my non-logo and a brand red that felt entirely wrong for me and my values:

We began our brand brainstorm over a Zoom and a virtual coffee.  There were two things I definitely wanted to change, one was my name from HD Consulting (which felt too impersonal and corporate) to Helen Dunnett Consulting, and the other was the very bold brand ‘red’.  Other than that I was open to creative ideas.

We talked about my personality and values, and the new brand photography on my website was a good starting point.

A couple of weeks later Jon sent me a choice of logos, colours and fonts.  I have to say they were all great and it was really difficult to choose just one.  Several conversations and tweaks later it became clear which was ‘the one’.  The freestyle signature works in partnership with a great Jeremy Tankard font, Aspect:

One of the biggest problems with my previous logo was there was only one version of it and it just didn’t work in a lot of visual situations.  We were keen therefore to create a logo that would work across a variety of online and offline formats. The resulting identity is flexible enough to apply across a range of marketing collateral, and the next steps will be to roll it out to my website, business card, email signature and social media platforms. I think the end result reflects ‘me’ Helen Dunnett Consulting!

I love it Helen! I wondered if you might have got Jon on board 😉

Looks good and looks modern Helen - well done!

Doesn't it feel good when your brand identity matches up with your identity. After all, your business is personal.
