Healing the “Silent Crisis” via “Wellness Intelligence”: 10 Benefits to Leaders [PART 2]
I love it when commenters on my articles get me thinking deeply about critical issues organizations and leaders are experiencing today. Even more so when their comments help me envision new concepts and approaches for nurturing leader and organizational well-being.
Well, that was the case last week with this comment below by Laila Leonida regarding my EWU issue, “Healing the Silent Crisis” [Part 1].
It was very well stated and on point, and it got me wondering if a paradigm shift is needed.
“The stress- and anxiety-driven way of life is not sustainable, not for leaders nor their employees. We've come to accept it as "normal," but it's creating disease in body and mind. And the big irony is that it's a choice we're making! Stress is a choice. But we're so deeply unaware that we're not able to choose differently.” Laila Leonida
In Part 2 below of "Healing the Silent Crisis," I unpack 10 key benefits of cultivating Wellness Intelligence (WI) in leaders/organizations (and how Certified Executive Wellness Coaches can help manifest such).
Introducing the New Kid in Town: "Wellness Intelligence"
In today’s fast-paced and demanding corporate environment, the concept of Wellness Intelligence (WI), also commonly referred to as "Well-being Intelligence," is emerging as a crucial component of effective leadership.
What is Wellness Intelligence?
Wellness Intelligence (WI), a first cousin to EQ (as I see it), is a holistic framework we introduce in our "Certified Executive Wellness Coach" Course that encompasses an individual’s ability to recognize, understand, and act upon their well-being.
This concept integrates various dimensions of wellness, including physical health, emotional resilience, mental clarity, social connectivity, and even spiritual well-being.
Leaders with high levels of Wellness Intelligence (WI) maintain a balanced approach to their work and personal lives, demonstrating awareness of their needs and the impact their well-being has on their teams and others.
WI is not merely about stress management or physical fitness; it is about creating a perspective that allows leaders to prioritize well-being as a foundational element of their leadership practice.
This approach acknowledges that leaders are not isolated figures; rather, their well-being significantly influences organizational culture, team dynamics, and overall productivity.
In an era where leadership demands are escalating, Wellness Intelligence stands out as an essential attribute for sustainable success.
Certified Executive Wellness Coaches (CEWCs), such as the new candidates we will be training and certifying in our newly enhanced course this fall (perhaps even you), will be instrumental in developing this intelligence within leaders, enabling them to navigate their roles with insight and balance.
By serving as change agents and wellness catalysts, CEWCs not only enhance the capabilities of individual leaders but also contribute to creating a healthier, more resilient corporate culture.
10 Ways CEWCs Help Amplify “Wellness Intelligence” in Leaders
1. Promote Self-Awareness
Developing self-awareness is a cornerstone of WI.
CEWCs help leaders better understand their leadership styles and how wellness, both physical and emotional, plays a key role. This awareness enables leaders to respond to challenges and employee needs with greater composure, insight, and responses.
( I will also address via another two-part article this week in my personal LinkedIn article series the impact of Imposter Syndrome on the well-being and development of High Potentials ascending the corporate ladder - ring my profile bell and follow me on LinkedIn to be notified of their release).
2. Coaching the WHOLE PERSON
Certified Executive Wellness Coaches (CEWCs), by coaching the WHOLE PERSON, can help leaders uncover their unique wellness needs, an imperative to Wellness Intelligence.
This personalized approach ensures that strategies are tailored to address specific challenges, whether they relate to stress management, work-life balance, or emotional well-being.
3. Make Wellness 'Habit-Forming'
CEWCs teach leaders how to integrate WI-wellness practices into their daily routines. This can include mindfulness, exercise, mindful eating, and time management.
By embedding these practices into their lifestyle, leaders can enhance their WI while setting a positive example for others.
4. Enhanced Performance in Decision-Making and Problem-Solving
Leaders with high WI possess the mental agility and emotional resilience to approach challenges with clarity and creativity.
When prioritizing self-care, they can think critically, make better decisions, and foster innovative solutions. This positively affects the entire organization, as leaders set the tone for strategic thinking and problem-solving.
For leaders, possessing WI means maintaining a balance that enables them to lead effectively and ethically, even under pressure. This especially applies to High Potentials, which will be addressed in my upcoming articles.
5. Building Emotional Resilience
Emotional resilience is key to effective leadership.
Wellness coaches help leaders build this resilience by fostering a growth mindset and perseverance. (Also beneficial and critical attributes for High Potentials.)
Through various strategies, leaders learn to bounce back from setbacks and maintain motivation and morale in their teams.
6. Fostering Social Connectivity
Well-being isn’t just an individual pursuit; it’s greatly influenced by social interactions and how, in this case, leaders care for and support their peers and employees.
CEWCs emphasize the importance of building and maintaining strong professional relationships and support networks with coachees to enhance personal and organizational well-being.

7. Navigating the Complexity of Leadership
Wellness Intelligence helps leaders better navigate and cope with the complexities and challenges of their role.
Moreover, Executive Wellness Coaches understand the unique stressors and challenges leaders face and can provide guidance on maintaining balance amidst demanding schedules and high-stakes responsibilities, ultimately empowering leaders not just to survive but to thrive in today’s complex landscape.
8. Improved Employee Morale and Engagement – Extinguish Burnout and Reduce Turnover
Leaders who embody Wellness Intelligence advocate for a supportive environment that encourages team members to prioritize their health and well-being.
This cultural shift results in improved employee morale, higher engagement levels, and increased job satisfaction.
When employees feel valued and are encouraged to take care of their well-being, they are more likely to invest fully in their roles.
Leaders who embrace and nurture their “Wellness Intelligence” can, by extension, help prevent or extinguish burnout—one of the leading causes of turnover in today’s fast-paced workplace.
Leaders equipped with WI and wellness strategies through the support of a CEWC can spot signs of burnout in their teams early and respond with appropriate interventions. This proactive approach not only retains top talent but also fosters loyalty and commitment within the workforce.
9. Higher Productivity and Performance by All
Cultivating “Wellness Intelligence” translates to higher productivity levels. Period.
Leaders who prioritize their well-being often demonstrate improved focus, energy levels, and overall performance.
This heightened sense of well-being can be infectious within their teams and helps nurture cultures where everyone strives for high performance and optimal results by recognizing self-care, and WI is the pathway to personal growth and productivity.
10. 'Wellness Intelligence' Helps attract TOP TALENT
Prioritizing Wellness Intelligence helps attract top talent of new hires and optimizes succession planning of new, up-and-coming leaders.
Leaders and employees alike thrive in healthy, supportive environments. The results speak for themselves.
[Bonus] Positive Financial Growth and Sustainability
Investing in wellness initiatives and the services of Certified Executive Wellness Coaches can help offset healthcare and benefits costs, reduce absenteeism, and improve employee performance, all of which contribute to a healthier bottom line.
As illustrated below, leaders and organizations that take wellness and executive coaching seriously often see a substantial return on investment (ROI) in terms of heightened leader and employee performance, reduced operating costs, and enhanced financial performance.
Creating & Sustaining Lasting Change!
In summary, as demonstrated, Wellness/Well-being Intelligence is a critical element for leaders navigating the complexities of today’s corporate world. To this end, organizations are highly encouraged to seek out and invest in Certified Executive Wellness Coaches and our up-and-coming grads in our CEWC Faculty to help cultivate this vital intelligence among executives.
By doing so, leaders and organizations are better positioned to promote a healthier, more engaged, and high-performing workforce, fostering a culture where wellness and success go hand in hand.
The long-term benefits of such investments are not only a more resilient leadership team but also a thriving organization prepared to meet future challenges with confidence and clarity.
As underscored via the above opportunities and benefits, Certified Executive Wellness Coaches can help leaders hone their Wellness Intelligence and implement personal and systemic changes that promote long-lasting well-being. Moreover, they will help leaders establish wellness practices that can be modeled throughout the organization, instilling a culture of health that impacts everyone.
