Health as a foundational pillar.

I was recently listening to a podcast featuring Steven Bartlett, and one thing that was exceptionally powerful, given that he is only 31 was the fact that he valued health as his most important pillar, and recognised that without health, multi millions of pounds are actually worthless. It is only when you take that health away that you realise how important it is and should never take it for granted. If you have found yourself in a position in life where your health has started to deteriorate, or that you want to regain ownership of how you live and feel, it's never too late to make a change.

As a 51 year old performance coach whose had health and fitness at the core of both my personal and professional life for the last 28 years, here are my 5 top tips for regaining a zest for life and some level of control over your health and well being.

1: Prioritise sleep. 7-9 hours a night. It is the cornerstone of wellbeing. The research and science validates this. Sleep deprivation accounts for immunity issues and general over eating given the relationship with hormonal function. In summary, you will crave poor food, have low energy levels, and inevitably a level of irritability. None of which are conducive to living a fulfilling life.

2: Hydrate effectively. You'll be amazed how many people think they are drinking enough water. Water is essential for cellular function. 2-3 litres a day depending on your activity levels. More if you're active.

3: STOP SCROLLING and make EXERCISE A PRIORITY, that might be 10 minutes of active mobility a day, walk more, or try an exercise class that you think you'll enjoy. Think about the amount of time you spend on social media. You definitely have some time to dedicate towards life enhancement. Especially if you have children.

4: Lift weights. Yes, whether you're a man or a woman, resistance training is efficient and effective for both muscle gain, fat loss and overall health. 2-3, 20-30 minute full body sessions are better than none to get you headed in the right direction.

5: Eat more protein. Has a positive impact on the immune system as well as essential for growth and repair of muscle and overall health. Think protein with every meal.

Loving the simplicity of this Chris Tombs, although we're at an age, now, where you need to consume the water well before getting that sleep if it's to be uninterrupted🤣.
