Hectic Times in the Nursery Industry
It's a busy and often chaotic time in the nursery industry right now. I’m sure you’ve all experienced it or at least read about it. There has been an incredibly high demand on foliage for the past few years, straining the system as we all attempt to fill the needs of consumers. Then, Texas had unprecedented snow several weeks ago. Most of their plant material froze and died. Now, massive amounts of landscape plants are shipping there from Florida and California, creating another huge shortage. Compounding that, all of those tractor trailers going to Texas means there are fewer to move plants elsewhere in the country. Strange times indeed. While we all wish we could satisfy orders for all of our existing clients, and take on even more, right now it is a challenge. Nurseries are strained to the hilt.
Being that it is so busy, there isn’t much time for taking and posting pictures. Walking out to take a fast snap this morning, I spotted this leaf at the perfect moment. Alocasia macrorrhiza ‘Variegata’ is always a beautiful plant, but with the morning sun illuminating it, it is just radiant. This is actually the back side of the leaf, proving that, while we all try to look ahead, sometimes you need to look behind to see what’s going on.
