Help others through the gift of your time, donations, goods or your voice

Today is #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

One of the best ways to get involved is in your own community. There are a number of nonprofit organizations that can benefit from your support as business owners, professionals, etc.

Consider taking time out of your day to support the organization that is very near and dear to your heart. Share your favorite cause with others using #GivingTuesday, you never know, there could be others in your network who support the same cause or organization that you do. This could then lead to you being able to establish a stronger connection with those individuals.

Here is a directory to help you find organizations, charities, events and more in your own community.

Below are a just a few nonprofit organizations that I support with my time, donations, goods and voice.

INROADS

INROADS is a non-profit organization founded in 1970 by Frank C. Carr to fix what he perceived to be a lack of ethnic diversity in corporate America. INROADS originally launched with only 25 interns working at 17 sponsoring corporations in the Chicago area. Since then, INROADS has expanded to become an international organization serving nearly 2,000 interns annually at over 200 sponsoring corporations. The organization is now based in St. Louis, Missouri. To learn more about INROADS visit www.inroads.org.

International Urban Education Consultants

The International Urban Education Consultants is a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt non profit. It was birthed out of the drive and dedication of Eric Thomas and Associates to continue to empower, motivate, and push future generations to access unlimited potential. Since 2007, Eric Thomas and Associates have worked tirelessly in middle schools, high schools, and post secondary collegiate environments helping students achieve academic success.

What began as a retention program at Michigan State University grew slowly into a campus wide effort to increase the graduation rates of disadvantaged students. Through practical resources, motivational sessions, access to mentors, faculty, and a cultivating environment the program grew past the campus of MSU into schools across the city, state, and nation.

Knowing the academic rigor needed to succeed, over a 4 year process, the ETA team researched, studied, compiled and gather data to produce comprehensive strategies for students to excel in any academic setting. Even with tremendous success, it is evident that there is work to do. The International Urban Education Consultants will foster greater access to opportunity to students in underserved communities, utilize educational techniques within the areas of leadership & identity development, and maximize student potential.
