Helpful information for teachers of English as Second or Foreign language *primary school level
DOOLEY, Jenny, EVANS, (2012), Fairyland 4 Activity Book, Express Publishing, 136 pages
Intended for to very young learners of English (primary classes), this activity book is divided into six modules, starting from the simple contents and grammar structures and finishing with more complex texts such as talking about wishes and plans for the future. The exercises are imagined in order to stimulate pupils' creativity, making them use the vocabulary they already know to formulate their own sentences. In the book there is a plenty of gaps to fill in with missing words, sentences where the children need to reorder the parts correctly. They can find new words (countries, clothes and other terms organized by the alphabetical order) in word searches and crosswords especially designed to help children's better memorization of the new vocabulary. Matching games, multiple choices, true or false choices, looking, reading and writing exercises will certainly make the pupils think a little bit in English, applying better the rules they have learned., while colouring pages, board games, cutouts and stickers will turn their classroom a funny place where they also can relax. The grammar rules are explained through matching and multiple choice games that help children to interiorize them more easily. It is a very practical and didactic manual where the educative and the ludic components are perfectly combined facilitating the teachers' and the pupils' work in the classroom.
