Helpful Tips for Writing a Blog

  • Stick to your area of expertise
  • Use a short, attention-grabbing headline
  • Write like you are speaking to an eighth grader
  • Be concise and make clear points
  • Avoid industry jargon – no selling!
  • Don’t be afraid to inject your personality
  • Use inverted-pyramid writing style (most important information at the top)
  • Good blog posts don’t have to be long (400 – 600 words or less)
  • Use photos, graphics or videos when possible
  • Use lists if appropriate (example: five tips for retirement planning)
  • Choose subjects that are relatable to the general public
  • Include links to more information, when available
