Helping our communities through the cost of living crisis

Today we have launched campaign across Newsquest's titles in Wales raising money to help people through the cost of living crisis.

As the main source of local news in our communities, we tell people about what's happening around them. It could be shops opening and closing, who has been in court, or how their local school fared in its latest inspection report.

But sometimes, you want to step in and play a part too. And that's why we've launched Our Communities Together - a cost of living crisis appeal.

Everyone is feeling the rising cost of living right now and most people won't feel they have money to spare to donate to others.

However, just putting in a pound - or whatever you can - all helps. We've worked with Community Foundation Wales and been able to secure access to match funding that means for every £1 readers give, £2 goes to the appeal (up to £25,000). The same applies to business donations in north and south Wales too.

Money raised in the appeal will be handed out in small grants to organisations working in our communities, via the community foundation. Organisations such as Feed Newport, a community interest company which runs a foodbank. They've seen a huge fall in donations as people have been trying to save every penny while demand for what they do is soaring.

By working with local organisations, the support can be delivered to where it is needed, quickly.

We could have launched this appeal just in the South Wales Argus, our daily title in Newport, but being part of Newsquest means we have a wider audience across Wales. So, we're running it in all our titles, include The Leader (Wrexham and beyond), The Western Telegraph (Pembrokeshire), the Barry & District News, Rhyl Journal and more.

I hope people can get behind the appeal and help us to make a difference. If you've read this far, please donate if you can and share this post to help us reach further. Diolch yn fawr.
