Company growth is impossible without investing in employee growth. Employee training and development are critical parts of growing your company and recruiting and retaining the best talent. Here are 3 outcomes you’ll see when you invest in your employees:

1) Reduction in employee turnover: Employees leave places they do not feel valued. According to the 2021 Bureau of Labor Statics report, the annual total turnover rate in 2020 was 57.3 percent. Investing in training and development is a clear way to show your employees you are committed to their growth at your company. Employees are also more likely to stay with companies where they see an opportunity for advancement. Your company can position impactful training and development as a door to new advanced opportunities. This will increase employee motivation and encourage them to go for new roles and promotions. Providing training and development will not only decrease employee turnover but will increase your employees’ sense of self-worth and make them feel more empowered.

2) Improved employee performance: As leaders, we should all want our employees to perform at their absolute best! Confidence is an important part of employee performance. Increased employee engagement through impactful employee development training can also increase your employee’s sense of self-worth and confidence. According to Gallup, companies with stronger employee engagement have 21% higher profitability than organizations with lower engagement. The performance of your employees is one of the major keys to company growth. When your employees feel confident in their skills and their role, they are more likely to perform at a higher rate. By providing training that is directly related to a particular transferable skill, you’re equipping your employees with a stronger skill set and boosting their confidence. Some effective training that can boost employee confidence and performance are:

  • Leadership development training
  • Sales training
  • Technical skills training

3) Stronger company culture: Your company culture is defined by your employees. Are you building a space where everyone feels welcomed and valued? According to SHRM, 1 in 5 US employees have searched for a new role due to their workplace culture. Employee training and development programs encourage more cross-team collaboration and create a culture that is rooted in teamwork. Acknowledging your employees’ completion of a training and development program will make them feel valued, and clearly show your company’s commitment to employee growth. Every company’s culture should create an environment where all employees feel safe from discriminatory policies and behavior, are valued for the skillset they bring and feel supported by all colleagues as they grow within their careers. Strong company culture is created through transparency and accountability, and it starts at the top.

"Increased employee engagement through impactful employee development training can also increase your employee’s sense of self-worth and confidence." Employees want to know they're more important than the "bottom line". If they feel a company cares about their growth and success, most will put that same investment back into the company! Great article. Excellent points. Reliable facts to back it all up!
