High Voltage Line Day Marking - Aircraft Warning Sphere for Warning Pilots
What are those balls that hang on power lines?
Have you ever seen those big yellow, orange, white or red balls hanging from power lines? Well, those balls are visibility markers. Overhead wire markers are safety instruments applied to the overhead power lines marking transmission lines and ropeways along the flight path during the day.
What is the purpose of those colorful balls attached to power lines?
Markers are often installed on overhead lines near airfields, or at river crossings where there is a possibility of float-equipped aircraft using the river. Some markers contain conductor marking lights or strobe lights to improve visibility at night or in fog.
The rules and regulations regarding Aircraft Warning Lights are defined according to the ICAO standards (Annex 14, Chapter 6). The Warning Spheres are used to have a diurnal marking on High-Voltage Lines.
It is recommended that, for a sphere of 60cm diameter, the high-voltage line be marked every 30 meters at the maximum.

Installation
Installation location: Aircraft Warning Spheres are installed on the lightning protection earth wire of the overhead tower, and the spacing between each marker ball is not more than 30 meters, and is set at equal intervals.
The clip of the aircraft warning sphere can be customized according to the size of the earth wire.
The aircraft warning sphere is orange; the installation is tight, and the line will not be worn for a long time.

The spacing between two consecutive marking spheres or between a marking sphere and a supporting tower should be appropriate to the diameter of the marking sphere.
The maximum spacing is 30 m with sphere's diameter is 600 mm.
The maximum spacing is 35 m with sphere's diameter is 800 mm.
The maximum spacing is 45 m with sphere's diameter is 1300 mm.
If multiple wires or cables are involved, marking sphere should be located in the highest wire.
When installed, different colors' marking spheres should be displayed alternately. The color selected should contrast with the background to ensure marking spheres will be seen clearly.
Obstruction marking spheres should alternate aviation orange, white, yellow, with aviation orange markers positioned at each end.
If less than four markers are on the line, all markers should be aviation orange.
