Hitachi Energy advances the future of grid operations with Network Manager WAMS
In 2050, when around 90 percent of global electricity is expected to be generated from renewables, there is an urgent need today to dynamically observe the grid and enhance situational awareness. Wide area monitoring system, a digital solution, reveals the true state of the grid based on high-frequency data streamed from phasor measurement units (PMUs) located across vast geographical areas.
Hitachi Energy predicts WAMS will undergo a strategic shift from a post-event fault analysis application to the forefront of utility control room operations and become a critical application for real-time grid management.

New grid technology to rid the world of the most potent greenhouse gas
At CIGRE Session 2024, we introduced two iconic technologies designed to advance a more sustainable grid:
The world’s highest voltage SF₆-free switchgear – the EconiQ 550 kV circuit breaker that can be used in gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) or dead tank breakers (DTB) and the EconiQ 420 kV Live Tank Breaker (LTA). Each new 550 kV GIS substation using EconiQ eliminates the carbon equivalent of 170 fully booked jumbo jets flying from Paris to New York while retaining the size, performance, and reliability levels of traditional switchgear
