Honoring a Sole Teacher's Dedication on Teachers' Day
As we celebrate Teachers' Day across India on September 5th, we honor Mrs. Vijayalakshmi, the sole teacher at a rural elementary school in Kanimerla, a village of 600 near Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.
Mrs. Vijayalakshmi, who attended the LeapForWord India and Vibha training program in partnership with the Samagra Siksha Andhra Pradesh Education Department, is a beacon of dedication for the 26 children attending the school. Despite challenges such as language barriers, long travel distances, multi-grade teaching, and limited infrastructure, her unwavering commitment has led to outstanding achievements. Three of her students won the state-level word power championship, and two advanced to the national level.
Our renewed partnership with Samagra Siksha Andhra Pradesh allows Vibha’s Foundational English Literacy Initiative to continue for three more years in seven districts, aiming to transform government education and empower more teachers like Mrs. Vijayalakshmi.
Education is the cornerstone of a prosperous society, and in regions like Kanimerla, where the majority of the population belongs to Scheduled Tribes, access to quality education is vital for breaking the cycle of poverty.
