How big is your business?
People, especially relatives and friends ask. "Which company do you work in and how big is it?". The motive of this question is majorly judging you and your decision. The bigger the revenue, the higher the number of people, you sound more professional, powerful and worthy. Their response will differ basis your answer. If you say more than 200 employees, the answer would be 'wow nice' and if it is less than that you will get 'Oh.. that's nice.' You can pick up the tonality to understand if it was a compliment or they are being polite.
Why are businesses judged on the scale of employment and expansion? Why cannot a business do the best job in the world and stay happy with the scale that they offer? That might be the best size for the work that they do.
With that logic of expansion, every doctor's clinic will need to be converted to a hospital to be showcased as a business or every university will need to be multi-locational to prove its worth. In both the above case, the quality is that matters than the scale.

More companies go down due to over hiring and growing before time than for any other reason. What is the solution? Entrepreneurs can focus on quality over quantity and not get overwhelmed by the pressure to hire more. On the other hand, the employees should focus more on the quality of the work they are doing, how valued they are feeling and what type of value they are adding to themselves in their career. What is the use of joining a super big organisation and doing work that does not even require you to explore your potential?
Every small business wishes that it is bigger and every big business dreams of being more flexible and agile. Focus on business overall, focus on the objective and present employees, focus on topline growth coupled with bottom-line growth and leave everything else to the time to tell a beautiful story to your next generation on how to build a successful business.
