How to break the cycle of stressing about stress?
"Do you ever get stressed... about being stressed?"
It happens to all of us. The workload piles up. Deadlines loom large. Relationships feel strained. And then, instead of just feeling the stress, we judge it:
👉 “I shouldn’t be so stressed!” 👉 “This stress will ruin my health!” 👉 “Why can’t I handle this better?”
Sounds familiar?
But what if I told you that how you think about stress can be more harmful than stress itself?
The Science Behind Stress Perception
Studies show that our perception of stress often makes it worse.
Imagine this: Stress knocks at your door, and instead of handling it calmly, you add layers of:
❌ Worry – "This is too much for me!" ❌ Self-criticism – "Why am I so weak?" ❌ Judgment – "Stress is always bad for me."
The result? A small flame turns into a wildfire of tension isn't it?
But the good news? You can shift this pattern by upgrading your emotional frequency—the energy you hold through your emotions.
Let me share 3 simple steps I use to break free when stress creeps in:
1. Go for a Walk 🚶♀️
Ever since college days, walking has been my go-to stress-buster.
I remember one particularly rough day 2 years back: Deadlines were crashing in, I couldn't achieve my targets, got irritated with my loved ones and I felt paralyzed.
So I put on my shoes, stepped out, and just walked.
The moment I hit the fresh air, I noticed something: The swirling noise in my head started to quiet down. With each step, I could hear my thoughts clearer and kinder.
👉 What if you tried this next time stress hits? Even 5 minutes can work wonders.
2. Treat Myself Like a Best Friend 💬
Here’s a little secret: I talk to myself.
Not in a “crazy” way—just the way I’d talk to a dear friend.
For example: “Its Alright, Sneha, this feels tough right now, and its ok to feel this way, however what’s the next small step you can take?”
This shift in perspective, called 3rd-person self-talk, is powerful.
Did you know even LeBron James does it to keep his cool? He is one of the best players in the sports world.
So when stress rises, try it:

✅ Pause. ✅ Speak to yourself with love and curiosity. ✅ Ask: “What do I need right now?”
It may sound simple, but kindness changes the game.
3. Focus on Your Values 📝
Stress often comes when we lose sight of what matters most.
Here’s what I do: I write down my top goals and values on a note pad. Since I'm more of a Kinesthetic person. This works best for me.
Why? Because when stress pulls me into chaos, these reminders anchor me back to what’s important.
They tell me:
🎯 This is what you stand for. 🎯 This is why you’re working hard. 🎯 This is the bigger picture.
A Bonus Tip 🎥
Here’s one question I ask myself when stress feels overwhelming:
“Will this matter 5 years from now?”
Watch how quickly this reframes the situation.

1wExcellent tips for day today stress management!! What I liked the most is to write your values and goals in front of you and asking myself "will it matter 5 years from now?". I personally too go for a walk, listen to music or simply journal what's bothering me in such times.
