How to build a personal brand without acting like a fool.

How to build a personal brand without acting like a fool.

If you want to stand out in the sea of people who do the exact same thing you do, you have to be willing to lean into what makes you different.

Unfortunately, too many people spend all of their time chasing trends, trying desperately to go viral.

They have no strategy.

No focus.

No ability to turn that virality into cash.

What if instead of hopping on EVERY TRENDING song, you:

  • Got clear on who YOU want to be in the world.
  • Leaned into what makes you DIFFERENT. The things that don't fit into some trend.
  • Became obsessed with providing value, so people's trust was immediately elevated.

The truth is, there is zero benefit to you building a personal brand that is just like someone elses. By following what every "influencer" in your space is doing, you immediately put yourself in second place, at best.

Instead of running behind someone else, dare to be who you really are.

  • You don't want to do Alex Hormozi style videos, don't do them.
  • You don't want to cuss like Gary Vee? Don't cuss.
  • You thinking pointing at nothing in an Instagram reel in the same exact way as 2million other people is ridiculous... stop doing it.

You can build a stand out personal brand that feels fully aligned with who you are. Here's how:

  1. Get clear on your north star. WHO do you want to be in your industry? What do you want to be known for? What IMPACT do you want to make?
  2. Write down 4-7 topics you want to talk about. These can be anything and DON'T need to be connected to your company.
  3. How do you want to make people feel? What kinds of personal stories can inspire those feelings. Be honest. Don't make things up. But dig deep.
  4. What are your convictions? What do you deeply believe about your industry? About the world? About what you were meant to do. Share those beliefs. Yes, people will hate you for them. But there are others out there who are WAITING for someone like you. They will LOVE you for those same beliefs.
  5. Create content in a way that feels authentic. YOU get to decide how you want to show up in the world. If you love writing, write. If you love talking, podcast. If you love video, go live. But you don't HAVE to do anything you don't feel comfortable doing.
  6. Commit. If you're going to build a personal brand that people recognize, you are going to have to show up. So, whether it's weekly or daily, commit and follow-through.

At the end of the day, building a personal brand is critical for anyone who wants to grow a business, land their dream job, get speaking gigs, be a guest on podcasts, sell books, or make a marked difference in the world. So, don't shy away from building your brand, but don't believe the lie that you have to dumb yourself down or show up in a way that isn't really you.

This was some of the best, most authentic advice. I was becoming weary of all the advice "to be silly" on social media for likes.....it's refreshing to see the mindset of originality over foolery and not that I'm knocking those who are genuinely funny people....but I think there is internet space for all types without having to conform to what's trendy. Great content Danielle!
